Changing culture and behaviour for positive sports experiences
My programs are centered around improving the quality of coaching through; ongoing coach support, coach wellbeing, coach retention, parental understanding and support of coaching, and club. By achieving these goals, together we aim to foster increased participation in sports.
Activities should be carried out at the club or local association/region level, rather than relying solely on national or state sporting organisations. This ensures a more personalised and effective approach to coach development.
My initiatives are backed by education and promotion efforts within the club community. I work closely with coaches, coach developers (CDs), program managers and coordinators to create awareness and understanding of their role and the support they provide. This helps foster a culture of support and collaboration.
My programs have strong elements of experiential learning, emphasising practical application and learning by doing. This approach enables coaches to enhance their skills and knowledge through hands-on experiences and on-the-job training.
I ensure alignment with the sport's coaching frameworks, providing coaches with a structured and comprehensive approach to their development. This alignment helps coaches navigate their coaching journey with clarity and purpose.
Pre and post-evaluation is an essential part of my programs. I gather feedback from CDs, coaches, coordinators, parents (in the case of junior sports), and participants (in the case of elite-focused programs). This feedback helps me continuously improve and tailor my offerings to meet the specific needs of participants.
I prioritise personal support to coaches. I work closely with clubs to ensure the structural support necessary for a successful coaching program. This support includes mentorship, resources, and guidance tailored to the individual coaches coaching context.
My philosophy revolves around holistic coaching, which encompasses a comprehensive approach to supporting individuals in their personal and professional growth. I believe that coaching and mentoring should go beyond skill development and performance enhancement. It should acknowledge individuals as unique human beings, taking into account their life situations, health, and well-being. By prioritising holistic development, I aim to create inclusive and empowering environments that promote equality of access and opportunities for all.

Yes, I'm still coaching Cricket at Premier Level with the Lindisfarne Cricket Club in Hobart, Tasmania. It's my local club and I enjoy helping our players to progress towards their personal goals. It's not unusual for me to spend 1 to 2 hours on the Robo Arm working with the batters! There are a number of sessions and programs you can book that are practical and Face to Face.
Just navigate to the 'Programs' page link in the menu and select the type of program or session you would like to participate in. Then follow the simple booking instructions. If you get stuck, just email me; john@coachingcohort.com.au
Great question! One to One coaching is extremely affordable and can be up to $100 AUD per hour subject to needs and the specific program. Most of the programs have a 'getting started' program or session price listed. Facilitating of sessions is normally quoted as this depends upon the needs of the organisation.
This really depends upon your needs. You can book a 'one off' session or blocks of 4, 6, 8, 10. Sessions can be weekly, fortnighly, monthly or customised to suite your needs.
Absolutely! Just choose the relevant program and select 'weekly' or contact me directly to discuss your needs; john@coachingcohort.com.au
